Manasota Key

Manasota Key is located south of Venice Beach along the Gulf of Mexico and is home to Manasota Beach, Blind Pass Beach, Englewood Beach, and Stump Pass Beach. The atmosphere in Manasota Key is that of old Florida with several great restaurants and gift shops on the island and in Englewood. Manasota Key is not as popular as many of the other well known Keys and beaches in Southwest Florida, and many of the beaches are undeveloped, naturally preserved and most are not crowded. All of the above makes the beaches of Manasota Key great affordable vacation spots.

Englewood Beach is the most popular beach on the key and has plenty of parking, lifeguards, picnic tables, showers, restrooms, a pavilion, and a large play area for children. Manasota Beach is at the northern most end of the key and has no lifeguards but there is free parking, picnic tables, showers, and restrooms. At the southern most end of the key is Stump Pass Beach which also has no lifeguards. Blind Pass Beach is the most isolated on the key. It also has no lifeguards, but does offer free parking, picnic tables, and restrooms. In addition, Stump Pass Beach has a nature trail with dunes and wildflowers.

If you have time, spend a day in Sarasota, about 30 miles north of Manasota Key. Take a visit to Sarasota Jungle Gardens, one of the oldest attractions in the State of Florida. Sarasota Jungle Gardens has 10 acres of tropical vegetation, winding jungle trails and entertaining, educational bird and reptile shows. Many of the animals at Sarasota Jungle Gardens were rescued from adverse or inhumane conditions, and others were donated by pet owners who could no longer take care of them.

Another great attraction in Sarasota is the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens where you can explore the world’s most spectacular display of rare orchids, bromeliads and tropical plants in this 9.5-acre oasis on the shores of Sarasota Bay. The Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota is a non-profit institution that fosters understanding and appreciation of tropical plants through programs of research, conservation, education and display. Selby Gardens is best known for its living collection of more than 6,000 orchids.  View all Sarasoa Area Attractions »
